Use a Banana Leaf when Eating

I will always have fond memories of family picnics when I was young and we will eat using Banana Leaves as our plates.  Yes - back in the 70s and 80s - Filipino families did not use paper plates or plastic plates during picnics.  We used banana leaves.  In fact - I remember going to fiestas where we were served our food on Banana leaves as well.

Use Banana Leaves as plates

Now that we're all grown up - we realize that this practice is very good for the environment.  The leaves are biodegradable and renewable - so using them means less detergent used for washing plates and less plastic and paper consumption.

One restaurant in the Philippines actually gives its patrons Banana Leaves instead of plates.   That's Banana Leaf Curry.  We had our lunch at their outlet at Rockwell.   These are the dishes we ordered this time:

Chicken Satay

Char Kway Teow (Fried Noodles)

Steamed Fish

For those who are worried about germs - please take note that they disinfect the leaves by running heat on it.   So - don't worry - I think the leaves are as clean as the plates that you use when you eat out in your everyday restaurants.
